Simply put a Hub and Spoke flight is where you fly to a main hub airport and then take a flight to your destination.

When going long haul there are two main methods of doing this. The first is to fly from your local airport to a hub airport nearby. So from the UK that is most often Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris or Heathrow/Gatwick. From there you take a long haul flight to your final destination.

The second method is to take a long haul flight from your local airport, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow all offer a good range of flights over the Atlantic, and fly to an airport near to where your final destination is. From there you take a short flight to the airport of your choice.
